Launching Careers: BRC’s Internship Program Offers Real-World Experience

At BRC, our Accounting Internship Program is designed to cultivate young talent and prepare them for successful careers in public accounting. This program not only helps students refine their skills but also fosters meaningful connections within the industry.

A Strategic Selection Process

At BRC, we take a thoughtful approach to selecting interns who demonstrate passion, potential, and alignment with our firm’s values. Our recruitment process includes:
  • University Partnerships: We collaborate with career services offices at universities across North Carolina, ensuring that students have access to internship opportunities. Our alumni also engage with their former professors and career services representatives to introduce students to BRC and its internship program.
  • Resume Review: We evaluate applicants based on academic performance, relevant coursework, and previous experience that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.
  • Interviews: Selected candidates participate in interviews that assess their skills, aspirations, and cultural fit within the firm. These conversations also provide an opportunity for students to learn more about BRC’s mission and workplace culture.
  • Cultural Fit: We prioritize finding interns who not only excel academically but also integrate well into our collaborative work environment. This ensures a successful and enriching internship experience.

Two Internship Programs for Different Seasons

BRC offers two structured internship programs designed to meet different scheduling needs while maximizing learning opportunities:

Summer Internship (June – August)
  • Schedule: 30 hours per week, Monday through Thursday
  • Location: Weekly Leadership BRC meetings in Greensboro
  • Experience: Exposure to both Assurance and Tax, allowing interns to explore different career paths before selecting a focus
  • Development: With a slower summer workload, interns gain in-depth technical training and insights into firm operations
Winter Internship (January – April 15)
  • Schedule: 35-40 hours per week
  • Assignment: Interns are assigned to either the Assurance or Tax team and are treated as staff members
  • Experience: Interns gain hands-on experience supporting high-work compression periods (busy season), playing a crucial role in team success

The Value of a BRC Internship

Interns at BRC receive more than just technical training—they gain a holistic professional experience that prepares them for future success. Our program emphasizes:
  • Real-World Application: Interns engage in meaningful work, bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. We aim for every intern to transition into a Staff Accountant role when eligible.
  • Mentorship & Support: Each intern is paired with experienced professionals who serve as mentors, whether as designated “buddies” or home team leaders. These relationships provide guidance and industry insights.
  • Skill Development: A mix of in-person training, webinars, and job shadowing helps interns refine their technical and soft skills, setting them up for a strong start as accounting professionals.

Building the Future of Public Accounting

Through careful selection, hands-on experience, and meaningful mentorship, we empower the next generation of professionals to thrive in an evolving industry. By investing in young talent, BRC continues to foster growth within the firm and beyond, leaving a lasting impact on the accounting profession.
